Why do people think sushi is raw fish???????????

argh!!!!!!!!!
of cousrse you can have a bit of raw fish if you want, but its not mandatory
There are some answers for your reference as below, you can choose your best answers

the preponderance of sushi IS raw fish and the exceptions are the cooked items.according to my prep chef ,who is from japan, the term sushi is technically a form or method of preparation and while ,yes, sushimi is mostly the raw products (seafoods et.c.)and sushi is or has cooked things in it, the term "sushi" has been widely accepted as that whole genre of the preparation of nori, sticky rice, and a filling of some sort,by the unknowing ,semantics mostly.you can have what ever you want in it and the sauces are a whole different story ,generally called shushi-san,or sushisat-itoyo

1. Sometimes it is raw fish
2. Sushi started as raw fish fermented with rice and then eaten(aka raw fish)

Two valid points I think can easily and understandably lead to people referring to sushi as raw fish.

because they are not brought up to eat sushi.
They are not Japanese or were not exposed to Japanese culture.

it's like caviar, I would still imagine it as fish eggs.

maybe they're thinking about sashimi, which is pretty much raw seafood. sushi can have raw and cooked veggies, assorted seafood, sauces, etc

Because mostly Japanese food we eat with " not cook ". So it is raw. But some people don't like it. Because the food is cold such as salmon.

Because that is the basis of what real sushi actually is! Personally, I love it.

because most people are uneducated on what sushi is

Lack of knowledge and sophistication of the palate!!

no sushi isnt raw fish its sushimi that is. anyway sushi is heeps nice :)

maybe because some types of sushi contain raw fish ?
